Therapy Philosophy

We all have a unique story filled with an array of hardships, pain and beauty. Sharing your story while remaining your authentic self can be difficult in a world that may leave you feeling lonely, misunderstood, and unsettled. Revealing the chapters of your life to another may be challenging, yet it can provide an instillation of hope when you are met with a listening ear.

Within this space of being heard and seen, we can allow ourselves to explore our current hardships while connecting to and deriving meaning from our past emotional experiences. I interweave this belief into my approach, as I provide you a place of safety and compassion while working collaboratively towards meeting your individualized needs.

Being a part of a mixed-race family, I am also sensitive to various cultural factors and incorporate an understanding of cultural diversity in my work. I find joy in human connection and appreciate its healing powers. Thus, it would be a gift to hear your story as we take the journey together towards a place of discovery, healing, and growth.

About Athina

My personal and professional experiences have cultivated my passion for supporting others through their therapeutic process. I received my B.A. in Psychology from California State University of Northridge, and a M.S. in Counseling Psychology (emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy) from California Lutheran University. I have worked with children impacted by learning, developmental, and socio-emotional challenges. I have also supported families in the care and understanding of their children through reflective parenting groups.

In addition, I have worked with adolescents, adults, and couples impacted by depression, anxiety, identity formation, trauma, codependency, relational difficulties, and life transitions. Having received specialized education in trauma-informed care, I am also passionate about helping individuals process the impact of their unique trauma and move towards a place of healing and empowerment. I hope to continue applying my passion for supporting others by supporting you in your journey.

Feel free to contact me to set up a free 15-minute phone consultation. I look forward to speaking with you and deciding whether working together would be a good fit.
